The unspoiled Elephant Coast which incorporates the World Heritage Site of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (formerly known as The Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park) spans 220 km's along the far northern coastline of KwaZulu Natal and stretches inland 70 km's to include several big 5 game reserves. This natural wonderland is home to an incredible 21 eco-systems. Former South African President Nelson Mandela, the guest of honour speaking at the re-introduction of African Elephant into the eastern shores of Lake St. Lucia summed up the uniqueness of this first UNESCO South African World Heritage Site.

“The St. Lucia Wetland Park must be the only place on the globe where the world's oldest land mammal (the rhinoceros) and the world's biggest terrestrial mammal (the African elephant) share an ecosystem with the world's oldest fish (the coelacanth) and the world's biggest marine mammal (Whale)"
